Cat D. Schutz

MSW, LSW

Hi, my name is Cat Schutz. I am a licensed social worker who is a compassionate counselor specializing in supporting children, families and individuals through challenging times. With a wealth of experience in working with those who have survived tremendous trauma, life changes, and who are struggling with the affect on your well-being, I'm deeply committed to empowering you to navigate life's obstacles with resilience and strength.

Previously I worked as a crisis clinician, and honed invaluable skills in providing support and stabilization to individuals. Drawing from this experience, I bring a calm and reassuring presence to my therapeutic approach, and value creating a safe space for you to explore your emotions and experiences.

My dedication to serving the needs of children and families extends beyond crisis intervention. With a keen understanding of the complexities of children and families in foster care systems, I value the need for the well-being and stability of children, ensuring they learn the skills, receive the support, education and resources they need to thrive.

A proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I bring a unique perspective and sensitivity, offering inclusive and affirming support to clients of all identities and backgrounds. I strive to foster a culture of acceptance and celebration of diversity, empowering clients to embrace their authentic selves and live fulfilling lives.

At Child and Family Counseling of Champaign, I utilize a holistic approach to therapy, recognizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit in healing. Trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as a variety of other approaches that I tailor to meet the individual needs of each client. My goal is to aid you or your family in developing coping skills, processing trauma, and cultivating resilience.

Above all, I am passionate about building a genuine connection with you, rooted in trust, empathy, and mutual respect. By fostering a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship, I hope to empower you and help you discover your strengths, overcome challenges, and embrace positive change in your lives.
